Precautions For Epilepsy

2025-10-6

Epilepsy is a clinical syndrome of highly synchronized abnormal discharge of brain neurons caused by various reasons, with over 6 million epilepsy patients in China. Epilepsy has the characteristics of episodic and repetitive seizures, and each seizure is sudden, which can easily lead to falls and bruises. Especially when engaged in high-risk work, there may be risks such as car accidents and drowning, posing a great threat to life and health. Therefore, epilepsy patients need to pay attention to the following:

1. During treatment, medication should be taken regularly, and there should be a slow reduction process before stopping medication. Generally, medication should not be stopped for less than 1-1.5 years to avoid missed doses and self discontinuation. During the medication period, adverse reactions should be closely monitored, blood and urine routine should be monitored monthly, and liver and kidney function should be monitored every 3 months. In addition, attention should be paid to whether rash, gait instability, dizziness, and other conditions occur during the medication period. If there are any abnormalities, seek medical attention and adjust antiepileptic drugs in a timely manner.

2. In daily life, attention should be paid to avoiding factors that can trigger epilepsy, such as alcohol consumption, staying up late, overwork, emotional excitement, excessive breathing, and prolonged use of mobile phones, TV, and computers, as flash stimulation may also trigger epilepsy.

3. Due to the possibility of sudden onset of epilepsy, it is advisable to avoid engaging in high-risk labor such as working at heights or operating risky instruments. When going out, it is important to avoid walking near water to prevent falling into the water during seizures.

4. Maintain good eating habits, with light and nutritious food being suitable, and avoiding overly spicy and greasy foods. Do not drink strong tea or beverages containing caffeine or stimulants, such as coffee, cola, Red Bull drinks, etc.

5. Avoid using quinolone antibiotics, such as levofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, and other drugs that contain the word "ofloxacin".

6. Maintain a happy mood, learn to self regulate emotions, and avoid negative emotions such as depression, anger, and fear.
