Understanding Anesthesia

2025-7-27

What is anesthesia?

Anesthesia mainly refers to the temporary loss of local or systemic sensation or the production of analgesic effects in patients through methods such as acupuncture or medication, providing convenience for surgical treatment. At present, the main methods of anesthesia include local anesthesia, general anesthesia, and compound anesthesia. Anesthesia is a very complex process, so doctors need to master the basic theory of anesthesia and proficiently apply various anesthesia techniques, as well as be familiar with the characteristics of various surgeries.

What are the anesthesia methods?

Anesthesia methods can generally be divided into four types: local anesthesia, nerve block anesthesia, spinal anesthesia, and general anesthesia. However, regardless of which anesthesia method is used, there are also anesthesia risks. Before anesthesia, the anesthesiologist will conduct a preoperative visit to the patient and explain some anesthesia complications to the patient, so that the patient can also be mentally prepared. It is also necessary to let the patient know how to cooperate with anesthesia before surgery to reduce some risks during the anesthesia process. In addition, the time for fasting water must be explained to the patient before surgery.

What are the types of anesthetic drugs?

There are many types of anesthetics, including general anesthetics and local anesthetics. 1、 Local anesthetics may usually be applied, pasted, or even locally injected on the skin. There are also many types of these anesthetics, including long-lasting and short-term effects. Long acting clinical drugs such as ropivacaine and bupivacaine; Short acting drugs such as lidocaine. 2、 There are more types of general anesthetics, such as sedatives that help with sleep; Medications that help reduce pain reactions, namely analgesics; There are also drugs that help relax muscles, such as muscle relaxants; Whole body auxiliary anesthetics, such as drugs that help stabilize blood pressure and drugs that help reduce nerve reflexes. So, there are more types of general anesthetics. In addition, depending on the route of administration, there are inhaled anesthetics, intravenous infusions, and intramuscular injections. So, there are many types of anesthetics, and anesthesiologists will choose the appropriate anesthesia method for surgery and select the corresponding combination of anesthetic drugs.

What are the hazards of anesthesia?

1、 Endangering the human immune system. If anesthesia is required during the surgery, there may also be many risks involved. After paralysis, all cells in the body are in the paralyzed stage, so it takes longer to recover. At the same time, it can also cause serious damage to the body's immune system. 2、 Decreased memory. After anesthesia, it can cause memory loss, which takes a long time to enter the recovery stage. The remaining anesthetic components in the body also need a long time to effectively promote the breakdown of toxins, so many people feel that their memory decline is due to reasons. 3、 It hurts even more after anesthesia. After undergoing anesthesia surgery, there may also be obvious pain phenomena. Although there is no pain during the surgery, the pain of the wound directly hits the face after the anesthesia subsides. This pain phenomenon is simply unbearable. 4、 Causing migraines. Many surgeries require the choice of local anesthesia. Some people may feel a headache after anesthesia, while others may experience obvious pain. It can be said that there are all kinds of symptoms, and some may even be accompanied by nausea and vomiting, which can cause obvious discomfort to patients and endanger their personal health.
