How To Correctly Interpret The Three Aspects Of Anemia

2025-12-12

More and more people are experiencing anemia, mainly due to incorrect dietary habits or poor lifestyle habits. Regardless of the reason, it is important to actively check your body and use the correct methods to treat it properly. Below, we will introduce the three types of anemia? How should the results be interpreted?

1、 What are the three types of anemia? Anemia is quite common in clinical practice, and there are many reasons for anemia. According to different causes, it can be divided into iron deficiency anemia, aplastic anemia, megaloblastic anemia, hemorrhagic anemia, hemolytic anemia, Mediterranean anemia, and so on. We usually judge the degree of anemia based on the amount of hemoglobin. If the hemoglobin is below the normal value but above 90g/l, we call it mild anemia. If the hemoglobin is between 60-90g/l, it is moderate anemia, and if it is below 60g/l, it is severe anemia. The three components of anemia refer to folate, vitamin B12, and serum ferritin. These three serological tests can provide a comprehensive evaluation of the causes and types of anemia, and assist in early diagnosis and treatment of anemia patients in clinical practice.

2、 The clinical significance of the three aspects of anemia

1. ferritin

Serum ferritin is the most iron rich protein in the body and an important indicator for determining iron storage in the body. Serum ferritin testing is of great significance in diagnosing iron deficiency anemia, iron load transition, nutritional status investigation, and other aspects. As a tumor marker, ferritin also has certain reference value for the diagnosis of certain malignant tumors in clinical practice. When serum ferritin is below normal levels, it may be caused by iron deficiency anemia. The normal reference range for serum ferritin is 15-200ug/L within the range of 15-200ug/L. Considering patients with chronic diseases such as chronic liver disease, long-term kidney dialysis, or malignant tumors, if the values are higher than normal, this situation may occur.

2. Folic acid

Folic acid is a water-soluble vitamin, also known as vitamin B11, anti anemia factor VBe、 Folic acid and other compounds are involved in the generation and metabolism of many compounds. It plays an important role in the process of protein synthesis, muscle cell division, and growth. When serum folate is lower than the normal reference value, it may be due to folate deficiency; The normal reference range for serum folate is between 9.5-45.2nmol/L.

3. Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, is one of the B vitamins. Vitamin B12 is an important nutrient in the human body, whose main physiological function is to participate in the production of bone marrow red blood cells and prevent pernicious anemia; Prevent damage to brain nerves. When vitamin B12 is deficient, it mainly affects the hematopoietic system and nervous system abnormalities. The normal reference range for serum vitamin B12 is B12179-660pmol/l. When the serum vitamin B12 detection value is lower than the normal reference value, vitamin B12 deficiency may be considered. If folate and vitamin B12 are both deficient, it can lead to megaloblastic anemia.

4. When all three are low

If all three items of anemia are lower than the normal range, it is a problem of iron deficiency anemia. After the occurrence of iron deficiency anemia, patients may experience symptoms such as dry hair, dry skin, rough nails, and wrinkled nails. Patients should pay attention to active regulation and eat more animal organs, which are rich in iron and can supplement the body's insufficient nutrition. If they want to relieve it through dietary therapy, they should pay attention to moderation and not eat too much at once. They can also eat oranges, celery, jujubes, apricots, tomatoes, rapeseed, spinach, kelp, soybeans, seaweed, etc. These foods are also rich in nutrients.

In addition, if the degree of iron deficiency anemia is reduced, some accompanying symptoms will also be alleviated. Anemia patients should pay attention to their diet. If it is a severe patient, they cannot delay and should communicate with a doctor in a timely manner. Under the reasonable guidance of a doctor, appropriate treatment can be carried out to alleviate symptoms and even cure the condition.
